Ta and the Tortoises

Okay, so it's been awhile. I am no longer in the frozen state of Idaho but in the very warm Nevada. I just started a new job in the town of Henderson next door to Las Vegas. I am working with the Desert Tortoises which are a threatened species. We are still in training and will be for the next week and a half but on my dad's birthday we will be out doing all this on our own. All I know right now is that we will be walking a huge 12 km square, 3 km on each side, and walking in a straight line for 3 km is much harder than it sounds! We will be looking for tortoises and if we find any we will measure them and tag them. All and all, heat aside, this job is very neat and will whip me into shape in no time.

Your tortoise looks just like my pet Toby, who lived in my cellar in Columbia. He was B_I_G and always listened when I told him my troubles. I don't know if it was the right food, but he seemed to very fond of chopped tomatoes and pieces of lettuce. When we had to move to Kansas City, my Dad and I took him out to the woods and turned him loose. He just sauntered away and did not look back.
